VerifyFood.com    OVERVIEW    - Connecting a Supply Chain Community
The Problem:
The norm in the food market today is for each company to manage their own traceability with a focus on "one step backwards and one step forwards". This is a sensible approach and effectively makes each company a link in an information chain.

However, this can result in the problems like;
  • How do you get a view on the complete traceability chain from the grower through to the consumer.
  • The further downstream you are in the supply chain the more exposed you are to upstream problems and the less visibility you have of these problems
  • If someone breaks the information chain it may not be apparent until it is too late.
  • When a problem occurs how long will it take to correct the supply chain and recall all affected products.
  • The system is reactive and problem focused rather than pro-active and confidence focused.

The Solution:
The VerifyFood.com portal allows supply chain communities to manage safety and traceability issues through the complete supply chain. Data streams from each company (i.e. traceability nodes) can be automatically uploaded to the portal and the lot code information is autmatically connected down the complete supply chain by the portal.
This provides a complete view of the traceability links through the whole supply chain.

Entering a product code and lot code into the system will display the complete ingredient supply chain as a detailed "chain diagram" or as nodes overlaid on a google map. Confidentiality is protected becasue only data that each company has volunteered will be displayed.

Once the user enters the appropriate Product Code and batch code the VerifyFood.com portal can present a complete Chain Diagram showing all of the product codes and batch codes that have been used as ingredients through the complete supply chain. Each node in the chain represents a product or lot code that has some link to the product code entered by the user

The Benefits:
Large Retailers and Multiples benefit from a system that can help them protect their brand an also manage the supply chain community that they depend on.
Large Food Companies can have full visibility of problem issues in their supply base to help minimise risk and manage safety to their back door and within their supply chain.
SME Food Companies benefit from demonstating that they have safety and quality systems that meet international standards and can therefore expand their sales oppotunities within the supply chain community.
Consumers can be confident of real-time protection systems that are co-ordinated and fully transparent, where they can query supply history and sources directly themselves on the web.

The Technology:
The VerifyFood.com portal is cloud based distributed technology. Existing ERP systems and Accounts systems can link with the portal via the web services that are available. Alternatively, preconfigured data sockets are avaiable from Verify for many of the more popular ERP systems (SAP, JDE, Sage, MfgPro, etc).

Customer can configure and manage their own data stream to the portal. This allows customers to define the information that they want to make availible to other users on the VerifyFood.com portal.

The portal can be configure to generate a number of different active alerts to affected community members, thereby actively driving out problem issues from the supply chain before they lead to major problems and costs to suppliers and customers.
